KETO. PART I. Today I am #sharing my Keto diet experience. Please note I chose to share my experience only. I am on Day 30 of nutritional ketosis of 0.8 mmol and glucose levels ranging 80-90mg depending on the time of the day/workouts. I started taking my measurements on Day 4 and was already at 0.7 mmol. I find that I feel best when the levels are closer to 1 mmol. . WHAT IS KETOSIS? Ketosis is a metabolic state at which body mimics fasting physiology and metabolizes stored or consumed fat for energy instead of glucose as the primary fuel. Ketosis happens in response to low blood glucose levels as the liver metabolizes fat and converts fatty acids into ketones (which can be measured). Nutritional Ketosis or #Keto diet provides a safer way of experiencing ketosis than the one from fasting. . . MEASUREMENTS: I used a home kit to monitor ketone and glucose levels. On Day 4 for 24 hours I recorded before and after each meal and after workouts. Since then I have been monitoring about once a day or once in 2-3 days. . . HOW DID I FIND KETO? I first heard of keto from Tim Ferrisss Tool of Titans where Dr. Dominic DAgostono shared his experience with therapeutic ketosis and more intense fasting dieting that would result in ketosis. At first I thought that it seemed impossible and I flipped the page. Until recently when I decided to cut out sugar of the diet which also led me to consuming less carbs (simply because some carbs have high amounts of sugar). Then I went back to that same page and did more research on Ketosis. . . WHY NO SUGAR? After my unexpected injury and set back in #training that stopped me from running I would instead eat up on some chocolate and most of all my feelings. A week of such behavior led me to even slower recovery more soreness fatigue and many other unwanted symptoms. So I decided to take control of what I can – #nutrition. I have already been eating healthy and decided to make one small #change – eliminate #sugar.
